Taking Care of Your Teeth with Braces

Maintaining good health for your teeth is one of the crucial aspects of the overall health of orthodontic treatment. Proper oral hygiene includes proper dental hygiene, the use of the right tools and proper motivation.  When the patient visits their orthodontists in the first step, he will educate the patient about oral hygiene during the whole treatment.

Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste and maintain good hygiene under normal conditions may require brushing twice a day. When braces are being used Brush your teeth at least five times a day with each session lasting at least five minutes.

Ideal Brushing Steps: Start your brushing from the top of brackets and the right side of the tooth. Brushing being and forth is recommended to all patients. You should clean the area under the bracket using the back and forth movement and brush properly in the biting surface of the tooth and the area facing the tongue. Regular flossing is also very important that removes food trapped in the braces. Follow a few steps to perform flossing properly.

Cut a long piece of Dental floss and place a quantity of the floss between the wire of brace and the teeth. After that hold, the end of floss firmly folded across the teeth. Gently remove the food particles entrapped between teeth and plaque that hold the floss in a C shape around the teeth. This vertical movement will ensure minimal damage and proper cleaning of your teeth.  Food that should be avoided while wearing braces includes hard/sticky food, sugary and processed food or crunchy food.
